Bedroom makeover

I'm not one that has a fancy bedroom, but Im showing off today, coz I got myself a new set of curtains. Yay!!

And... what I've done is, I've used the sheer on the outside and the plain colour on the inside for protection from excessive sunlight getting into this room.

The outcome of this experiment was simply fabulous. The curtains are closed most of the time, which means the pretty sheer isn't hidden and is visible for those who walk into the room.

The bed-cover, is inspired by my boho daughter, as bright as it can be...

The painting on the wall, was a Christmas gift from my sister in law... Her friend is an artist. You can see some of her work at Artystik

Spot the Madhubala cushion... My hubby's favourite actress.. (mine as well)... lies on a corner of the bed.. LOL

Now just to show you... what I mean.. This is how bright and lively this green is..

Now tell me what you think..

Beautifying a room

Truly it doesn't take much to make a home look beautiful...

Now.. this is how my room looked..

All it needed is a little thought..

Stopped listening to my daughters, and removed all the multi-coloured cushions...

Components for quick room makeover :
* add in a few cushions, colour co-ordinate them
* add some mood lighting around the room (specially in corners)
* my favourite, surely add some fairy lights
* de-clutter, clean up, clear up!! That makes the room look awesome.

Anu got me these new cushions... aren't they simply gorgeous!!

So finally... this is how the room looks..

The walls are still a bit bare...But that will take some time to populate.. *smiles*

New Wall paper

Moving away from bring wall colours to subtle wall paper!!

Yes!! This is what the wall looked like.. Its not as bright as in the picture.. but the room felt a bit dark and simply wasn't me.

So over the weekend, we changed the wall to an off white colour wall paper

Its got a lovely texture to it and makes the room look much much bigger and brighter..

Do you like what you see??

And I got a little excited and changed the curtains too.. I'll show you later what this room had, and you'd surely agree with me..

So that was my busy weekend.. What were you upto?

The Garden Center

The Dubai Garden Centre has a little coffee shop, where ever so often you will find me wasting my time with a cup of tea, cake and a book..

My girls love the bookshop there... so its a good place for all of us *smiles*

Can you see the milk can .. used as table decor ..

Now this was in the as is, slightly damaged section of the Garden center. Isn't this just lovely..

The selection of plants, ferns, succulents, garden decor and furniture simply has my heart.

Now.. more importantly, they have a selection of Buddhas... *sigh*

Indeed.. all these and so much more..

Have you been to the Garden Center? Is there a store near you like this one? Send me some inspirations on coloursdekor@gmail.com

Happy Onam

Happy Onam to all those who celebrate this lovely, colourful festival.

Here is what we did at work....

I didn't think Onam was this big... But someone at work put a video together about why Onam is celebrated and it was wonderful to see how rich in culture this one little state can be! wow!!

After the Onam Celebrations we headed out to a friends place for Ganesh darshan

Again a simply wow experience, and wonderful to see such devotion..

All the decorations here are done by the family itself.. Isn't this wonderful, that the entire family gets together to put up something so spectacular?

I have to feature this house too.. there were a few walls I have to show off.. about!!

Hotel Corinthia

What do you like about hotels?

I can a whole list of things that I love about hotels... but most of all I love when the foyer colours are just right.

Here are pics of Corinthia Hotel in Lisbon

The minute I saw this, I simply had to share it.

I love the combination of dark teal, olive green and a dull mustard.

The walls, the sofa, the paintings, the table lamp, and even the little vase on the tables all compiment each other.

This is a very simple looking decor. Yet, the use of subtle colours is simply impressive.

The hotel was overall lovely too, and the service was brilliant.

Doesn't this bring a smile on your face?
