My husband and I have a strong connection to India and have enjoyed seeing unique spaces on our travels, especially in Bali. We tried to recreate such a space in Houston, in our century old home, and we have enjoyed doing it, despite the mosquitoes and 100 degree afternoons! Our two young boys and yellow lab seem unaffected by weather or mosquitoes.
The home is a hundred year old stucco structure based on a Sears's home plan. The house is 2200 feet plus a basement, but the real beauty is the numerous balconies and porches overlooking what we think is our Asian oasis in a hot steamy city. We think the house is timeless and it reminded us of the concrete structures in India.
Did you spot the Buddha painting??? I also like this corner of her home.. and think I could sit here.. and sip on my cup of coffee.. for a long long time..
The flow of the house conformed to many principles outlined in the Vastu Shastra, an ancient Indian treatise that prescribes architectural and design elements for a positive result. We have lived here a year, but in this cool neighbourhood for almost a decade.
Isn't this gorgeous... I love the orange wall..
We redid the tin ceilings, added cabinetry and storage space, and removed columns and walls to open up the home. A lot of the artwork and the lacquered furnishings are from India and have been in our family.
I love the mix of seating in the kitchen... Makes it look like a home.. I love homes.. with real people in them... a little bit of clutter... lots and lots of love... loads of personality.. and your own style... and this home... surely has a lot of character... What do you think??
This use of space is just perfect.... I love the use of laddar in home decor and admire this use of space..
Isn't it picture perfect?? The windows make this area all the more stunning..
