The Alhambra Granada 5

There was just so much to see!! Remember I warned you...
We spent the whole day here, walking from one chamber to the other, walking from one garden into a palace. And simply being mesmerised by the sheer beauty of this architectural genius.

The Gilded Room (Cuarto Dorado) is so called because of the painted Mudejar style of its coffered ceiling. It as built by order of Mohammed V and belongs to the Comares Palace (Palacio de Comares). At the entrance there is a portico with three arches on columns with marble capitals from the 12th century. On the left, a little arch connects with the Mexuar and, at the back, another arch decorated with mocarabes and latticework and with two little arches on the sides. The middle arch leads to a little room, covered by interlacing coffered ceiling with Gothic paintings, the coat of arms of the Catholic Monarchs and their emblems. On the front wall of the hall there is a balcony divided by a column with Christian capital under a frieze of mocarabes. The capital is decorated with the royal emblems already mentioned.

Well even the ceiling had to be perfect *smiles*
