Jungfrau – Top of Europe

If you are in Switzerland and really want to see snow (I’ve only seen it thrice in my life, so am ever so excited!!)… Jungfrau is the place to go!! It is the highest peak in Europe and has snow & ice guaranteed all year long.

An amazing 3454 metres, this is the highest altitude in Europe!! An ofcouse the railway station here, is obviously the highest in Europe as well! Yes!! There is a railway station at this peak!!

Can you spot the train in this picture?

A few attractions on the Jungfrau are -
=> Ice Palace
=> Ice Gateway
=> Sphinx observation terrace
=> Plateau with hikes in the eternal snow
=> "Top of Europe" Glacier Restaurant
=> High Alpine Research Exhibition
=> ski & snowboard park, husky-drawn sledge rides, adventure attractions: e.g. Tyrolienne, snow disk etc.
The route to the peak is truly remarkable and definitely unforgettable.
The route - Interlaken Ost - Lauterbrunnen - Kleine Scheidegg – Jungfraujoch - Grindelwald - Interlaken Ost.

This unique round-trip by modern cogwheel railway takes you first to Kleine Scheidegg, at the foot of the notorious Eiger North Wall. From here the Jungfrau Railway starts its climb to the station at Eigergletscher, well known for its mountain restaurant and polar dog kennels. So stop a few minutes and don’t forget to have some coffee, tea or hot chocolate. The trip then continues through the Eiger tunnel to the stations at Eigerwand and Eismeer, with a five minute halt at each. Enjoy spectacular sightseeing through large observation windows cut from solid Alpine rock.

I don’t even have to say that the roof of Europe, offers superb views extended as far as the mountains in France and the Black Forest in Germany. When you are here just enjoy the Sphinx observation terrace & hall, the impeccable Ice Palace. Don’t forget to have a walk around the Jungfrau….

And then enjoy some hot chocolate on the mountain top!!

Easter jars

Its always nice to receive a little gift with your name on it...

Since Easter is around the corner, here is a small personalised gift for my little girlies... and their friends...

All you need is :
1. Chart paper
2. Scissors to cut
3. Glue
4. Jars or bottles (I've used baby food bottles here)

Draw little bunny heads like these ...

Fold the base (see below), so the bunny can stand!! Glue together the bunny's head...

Stick these on the lid of the jars or bottles...

Isn't that cute?? Now draw little hands holding a name (see below)...

Cut these... and stick only the top of the hands... to the lids... Do not stick the name on the glass...

This will enable the jars to be opened without tearing or breaking the hands.

Now fill the jar with Easter eggs, sugar coated almonds or jelly beans.... PERFECT!! Isn't it??

Have you linked in to 'Kids Craft'...

Wall Beauties...

Happy Wednesday...Continuing the post of those lovely Afgani pendants that my dear friends Harshi and Geeta, sent all the way from beautiful Dubai. As I had shared in my earlier  posts, some of them have become cherished neck pieces, some sewn on Indian kurtas, while others,...are mounted on Antique frames to become those wall beauties or Tabletop decor...I love them all...

... An Afgani village belle's hair adornment...

...a Neck pendant...the red silk brings out the brilliance in the red stones in the pendant...

...and the red silk brings out the red hues in the painting on the wall...

... another  neck pendant...

... three beautiful pendants mounted together...I love the soft pink stones on those pendants...they are gorgeous...would look gorgeous if sewn onto a raw silk baby pink kurta with some lovely chiffon pink dupatta with some silver gota and silver embroidery...will put it down for my next trip to India...:-) Yes, if we had those beautiful shops here, I would have made the kurta set by now...

Thats all for today. Hope you enjoyed the post.
Adios

All you need...
1. chart paper for bunny ears
2. cup cake base
3. used water bottle
4. glue
5. scissors

Cut the ears and colour them pink!! Make a small cut in the cup cake base. Stick the base of the ears in it, so that it stands...

Glue this to the cap of the water bottle and tie it up with a ribbon... if you like!!

Aren't these so cute to give away for Easter to little kids? Plus you've recycled the water bottles... My girlies enjoying making them... *smiles*..

360 deg tour Lucerne

We stayed in Switzerland for two weeks and just loved the place. You could sit on a train in Geneva and you’d arrive into Zurich in about two hours... that covers the whole of Switzerland (nearly!!). I was so impressed by everything.

Most of our time we spent at small road side cafes… or benches by the lake or on top of the mountains.. just sitting and chatting. It was such a lovely holiday.

This is the first post on Switzerland…
Mount Pilatus is a perfect peak for just about everyone. Here you can see the worlds steepest cogwheel railway. The travel around Mount Pilatus starts by boat, then the worlds steepest cogwheel railway, aerial cableway and then the gondola cableway. A memorable round trip indeed.

The views are panoramic… you can see the lake of Central Switzerland and the Alps.

There are lovely restaurants and you can choose from any international cuisine. We sat there for a long time… I had hot chocholate… and it was amazing!

Finally coming down the aerial cableway is a fantastic finale to the whole trip. After this you take the gondola down to Kriens. From here you take bus no. 1 back to Lucerne is 15 mins.

Switzerland is just lovely!! A place anyone could fall in love with instantly.....

Water bottle lantern

And if you missed this post on Mindful Meanderings...

Eva had a school project last week ~ Trash to treasure... She could use either cereal box or plastic water bottle and make it into something useful.. But she has to make it in school! I tried to convince her to make a lantern out of the plastic bottle ... but she simply didn't listen... She make an organiser out of the cereal box.

Anyway, so this weekend, I simply had to show her how easy this craft was...

You will need water bottles, glass colours, scissors ...

And the process is real easy. Cut the top part of the bottle and give it to your little one to paint. While my older one thought dropping paint was a good idea... My younger one decided to make a mess.. see below..

Well.. then I added a handle (using a hanger) and a few old beads... and here is the end result...

Hung it on the tree... and the lanterns look lovely... What do you think?

What else can you make of plastic bottles.... and oh.. don't forget to link at 'Kids Craft'..

Billu Barber ki petti...

Need a  Chumpi...or a Tel Malish (Head massage with some fragrant oils)...Call Billu Barberwalla on his mobile at 9865700011...and I promise, you will get the best of Malishes... or how about a haircut?...You can take your pick - a Plain one for Rs  10/- or a Sharukh Khan haircut for Rs 15/- or...how about a Bachan haircut for Rs 15/-...

I came across this cute wooden box, the other day at a store closeby. It was a Barber box! Something similar to what, I have seen in the gaalis of Bombay, at  Crawford market or at Bhuleshwar,... men wearing  pyjama-shirt, sitting on bent knees, doing a tel malish or a Chumpi or... sharpening the blade to clean the dhadi or... trim the moustache,...or rolling cotton around wooden thin sticks to clean the ears or wait...clean the nose!

The box was mottled green in color...an old one with paint chipped off. Filled up some of the gaps with putty, sanded the wood smooth and painted it with some red color and those details that  we have always seen  on the barber boxes...

I love Irfan Khan...what better than to name the barber box on his movie name...Billu Barber...

And yes we wanted our Billu Barber's favorite movies on the box...

So what do want  done?...

We have Hindi translation too....Tel malish!! Tel malish!!...

Ok you  want to see your face? the box opens to display a mirror...

I plan to keep some jewelry, some pins, some haldi kumkum...you can actually put your tikka properly...not in angles!

Again, it is Billu Barberwalla at 9865700011......Tel Malish!!...Tel Malish ...

Hope you enjoyed the Tel malish and the haircut....
Adious and have a fabulous week
