Luxor – Day 1 (Continuation…)

Tour of the West Bank

As promised the next few posts on Egypt will be shorter (with less frills) *smiles*

After the Valley of the Kings, our guide took us to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut (otherwise known as Hot Chicken Soup – coz its easier to remember). Queen Hatshepsut was the daughter of Thutmosis I who ruled Egypt for about 20 years in the 18th Dynasty. She was the only Woman Pharaoh who reigned ancient Egypt.

The structure as you can see is magnificent with the backdrop of the rocky mountains. There are a few 100 columns of either side which make it eerie. The paintings and carvings simply amazing, depict the life of queen Hatshepsut and the stories during her reign. It is believed that there is a connection from one of the tombs (I don’t remember whose tomb) at the Valley of Kings to this temple of Queen Hatshepsut. This is still undiscovered.

From there onwards we went to these two statues - Memnon Colossi.

From here we went to an Alabaster factory. We got to see how the stone is shaped and made worthy to sell. I was very tempted to buy a few things here -

Tour of the East Bank

In Luxor although you could do all the touring on your own, a guided tour is definitely recommended. This gives you an insight to the history and a grasp of the daily lives of the people there.

From the West Bank to the East Bank is a beautiful drive. We stopped for lunch at the Luxor Museum…. The food was amazing. I’ll have to do a separate post on Egyptian food.

Our first stop was at the Karnak Temple. The temple is dedicated to God Amon and his wife Mut. It is by far the greatest example of worship in ancient history. We walked along the Avenue of the Sphinx to enter the temple complex. Don’t forget that the ruins here are over 4000 years old. There is a huge courtyard to the temple and then some 135 columns. Impressive is not the right world. Towards the end of the Karnak temple is the sacred lake.

Don’t miss the Obelisk of Ramses II and the stories behind how this was erected is honestly unimaginable.

From the Karnak Temple, the Luxor temple is about a mile & half away by foot.

In the evening, we took a horse ride around the city of Luxor. This gives you true peak into the lives of the people.

If Egypt is on your list of places to go, do write to me on torresp27@hotmail.com and I’ll guide you through this magnificent and ancient land.

In the Zone ~ S & Y

Sims & Yva's creative space... *smiles*... Well... here is where my girlies & I make the most mess... I'll call it marvellously messy... *smiles*

The furniture here.... is from IKEA... and truly the cheapest we could find in this range... The girls still on the stool.. and the red chair is mine... *grins*

This space is the opening towards the terrace of our home... We've got no ACs or fans here (as yet)... so we only use this space from about September to April when the weather is cooler or simply bearable... Its impossible to use this space in the summer months...

I didn't want to show you my horrid paintings as yet....

The telephone was a gift from my cousin ... I haven't found a space for it in my home as yet... so its kept here for now...  The vase behind the photo frame is normally filled with wrapping paper... So come October... there will be lots of wrapping paper here...

This is our space for school projects, greeting cards, paintings, bead work or any other mess that we want to make... *smiles*... The door from here... opens up to the terrace... so some days we take our mess outside too....

The intention was to paint one wall... and put a string to hang my girlies art work... But no one ever comes up here to see anything... So we haven't done it up as yet... Considering... I still haven't completed the bedroom... This will obviously be my last project...

So guys.... are you joining us for in the zone??

I'm linking in to a few blog parties!!

Little Charms for kids

I admire people who follow their hearts!! Little Charms is Roshni's store and here is a small introduction to her and her products...

Over to Roshni

I am NIFT ,Delhi diploma holder who had tried the usual export house job in the early years of my career. The merchandising job had absolutely no vent out to the creative instincts of a person, so I quit. After trying out few other things, marriage came along and I got down to being a regular housewife. After 8 years of break I am now back in full spirits and fervor not to let my dreams go, dreams where I had viewed myself of creating a designer label of my own, creating things which will bring appreciation of people and in return satisfy my hunger for creativity. I got into designing kids room décor because after having my own kid, my world revolved around him and but naturally this happens to every other parent. So here I found a gap which could be fulfilled by my creations because today every urban parent is on a quest to give the world to their kids. A happy home comes in first on the list. A beautiful and cozy room is second and this is the place where Little Charms comes in. We design furnishings exclusively to fit in kid’s room with lots of colors, patterns and our USP personalization. Giving the kid’s name to his cushion, pillow, banners etc. makes him have the feeling of owning it and that’s what makes him happy. After all, most of the siblings fights is over the issue…”This is mine!!”

Product profile: We are into developing products for kids falling into the age group of 5-12 specifically. We are not into baby products. We look towards growing kids whose needs are different coz they are developing a choice of their own and we want to cater to their wishes. We make bed sheets, cushions, quilts, banners, placemats and various other items which we are still in the process of developing.

Little Charms is on online store and we deliver the products at your doorstep. Presently we are catering to Gurgaon but orders from every nook n corner of India is most welcome

Contact Roshni, via Little Charms website, Facebook page, or Email or mobile no: 9899040245

So tell me what did you think of the above products?? And if you follow your dreams and would like to showcase here... email me on torresp27@hotmail.com
