Happy International Women's day to you all... And on this occasion, on Colours Dekor today, is an amazing personality... A woman I truly admire... 

Madhuri Krishna

Madhuri Krishna is software professional and self taught artist, based in bay area, USA. She specializes in Art Design, Fine Art Drawing, Painting and Photography. She also designed various art websites, art magazine covers. She is interested in traditional Tanjore Art and Mysore paintings..... spends lot of time exploring different painting techniques, painting concepts....etc!  

She is an active volunteer/supporter of various non-profit organizations in Bay-Area, she is the art director for various dramas, dance and music performances. 

Inspired by Tanjore Art and Mysore painting Madhuri’s work have a very traditional, folk art feel to them.

Publications:

Her paintings have been published in ISKCON children books and her art has been exhibited in various local exhibitions.

Her paintings were published in ISKCON children magic books (www.illuminationeducation.com or www.learntoreadenglish.co.uk) and her art work is exhibited in various Bay Area local exhibitions (Fine Arts League of Cupertino, Sunnyvale Library and Cupertino Library)

Volunteer work:She volunteered for teaching art techniques at Stocklmeir School, Collins Elementary School, MyDreamAcademy and Sarvaguna Learning Center.

She designed Kuchipudi Sammelenam Art website (http://kuchipudi.siliconandhra.org/) in 2008 for Silicon Andhra, and also she was the volunteer art director for Vancouver SaPaSa various music dance performances, designed art templates in 2002-2006 and for VedicYagna Center she designed website design in 1999.

...Trinklet boxes...

Are you fond of Trinklet boxes? Trinklet boxes, Jewelry boxes, bangle boxes, tiny chests, masala dhabas...I love them all and collect them...Some are gifts that I treasure...some that I have picked during my travels. I place them all over  the house and use it to store every day stuff... So without further  ado, sharing some pictures of my collection over the years...

...the brass Idol box from the holy city of Benaras...Belonged  to my mother for nearly 40 years...she use to keep her collection of tiny godly idols in this box in her puja mandir. I too keep the box in my puja mandir...and use it to store the matchbox and some ghee soaked wicks...

...my grandmothers brass box...that my father had for a very long time and now has come to me. I got it with a beautiful Lakshmi etched on a glass mirror. The rich red velvet is still intact and soft to touch. I use this box to remove and store my earrings on the run...

...aah this is special!!...a beautiful silver bharni came to me as a Shankranthi gift this year from my lil cousins Raghav and Vinay. filled with lots of love, peace, health and prosperity...couldn't ask for more right!...

...the Shanti Spice jar in my lobby...now Shanti is my chamak chalo cousin, who got me this beautiful spice jar abt 12 years ago...:-) and I keep some elachis, cinnamon and lavang in it...yes one can smell a very delicate aroma of the spices in that  corner...

...a teak Indonesian tiny chest from my trip to Singapore...This reminds me of the lovely evening spent antique shopping with my friend Priya...

...the brass Masala dhabba in the bath...used to store those lovely fragrant spa soaps and salts...Diwya Rajan of 'Sound Horn Please' sent it to me all the way from NY...thanks Divi

...the teak Burmese jewelry box...

...a beautiful Sandlewood with intricate animal carvings gifted by my brother...

...a very delicate porcelain jewelry box from Ireland...I love that Irish knot pattern... 

...the steel betelnut box from amchi Mumbai...I store my quarters in it

...the intricately painted Kashmiri paper mache pencil box...or now my watch box...Picked it during my trip to Jammu...

...the delicate jewelry box painted with finely ground powder from semi precious stones...this is the last of the piceces remaining from what we purchased in the Indian Handicrafts exhibition in Bandra, Mumbai in 2009...

...an old Sandlewood box purchased many many years ago from the Sandlewood factories in Shimoga...keep my special keepsakes in it...

...yes this box is special, as my father gifted it to me 12 yrs ago...it is wounderful to be surrounded with things and keepsakes that are interwoven with warm and happy memories...

Its March!!

Its Monday!! and its March already!! *sigh*... I'm going to have a busy month ahead... At work, we start preparing for year end, and the last week gets super hectic. On the home front, its a busy time as well... with ballet rehearsals, performances (not that I'm performing!! *grins*), school assessments, school year end reports, swimming competitions, travel plans... and most importantly Yva's birthday!! *sigh*...

Anyway for now... or rather for March, in the spotlight is 'Kids Craft'... so the linky party below is open all month, come back and link your posts on Kids craft... It can be new posts or old posts... just about anything you believe kids can do!!

Oh.. and the best post in 'Kids Craft', selected by my judges 'Rose' and 'Harshi' (if you are a regular at Colours Dekor... you must know they were my team mates last year)... will receive an award... What the prize is.. I haven't decided as yet... but I promise you... it will be special *smiles*...

 The girlies and I made the above lantern using water bottles.... tutorial on Mindful Meandering ... Have a look!! ...

The above is a simple.. paper craft!! My girlies know I love tealights and love the shadows on the walls... While we were making the plastic lanters, Sims had the paper doilies idea above... All you need to do, is cut and place it in an existing tea light...

From there... we started discussing 'Easter craft'... Make little bunnies and cut them... And here is her trial run... They have these little cutters and have cut pink paper to make these... So I'm convinced the bunnies will look good too.. Although if the glass is straight the effect is better...

Goa… Goa… Beaches, Churches & Romances

If your idea of a perfect holiday is to just sit by the beach, sipping mojito, having a massage and lazing around. Goa is obviously the perfect destination.

The beaches are long, endless with white sands and blue skies. With the sounds of the waves hitting the shore, you are forced to leave all your thoughts behind and enjoy the moment.


The architecture is highly influenced by the Portuguese. However my opinion is that, some of the people really are unaware of the treasure they have and have not maintained their heritage very well.


Every corner of Goa is blessed with a huge, majestic, ancient church. Inside the churches, the sounds of the outside world are left behind. There is a calm and quite breeze that allows you to share your moment with God! The beauty of the churches is such that you would definitely want to spend some time there.

 

Goa also has two or three forts…. Extremely beautiful and a must see!

But if you are looking for intense travelling (like me!!)… Goa is really not the place. It’s the place to relax and enjoy life.

We stayed at the Nirvana Hermitage (http://nirvanagoa.com/index.htm) which is about 10 mins from Anjuna beach. This lovely resort is on a hill top and is away from the hustle and bustle of every day Goa life. Here are some pictures –

Dona Paula is one of the biggest attractions in Goa. This beach is associated with a romantic myth. Its spooky past attracts tourists from all over India and abroad. History goes to say that this beach is named after Dona Paula de Menzes, daughter of a viceroy in colonial India who threw herself off the cliff, because she was not permitted to marry a local fisherman. The myth goes further to state that Dona Paula emerges from the moonlit waves wearing only a pearl necklace.…. I loved the drive to get there. Goa is green.

Oh.. and when you are in Goa, don’t forget to try the Goan delicacies !! A definite visit to Souza’s resturaunt on the Callangute beach – is one of the oldest and most popular resturaunts. Its best go to early, as Souza’s is popular amont tourists and residents alike. The music and ambience of this open beach side resturaunt is such, that is just calls you to come back.
